Here at Lakeside, we offer Home Again microchip services, which increase the chance of your pet’s safe return home, should he or she get lost. A pet microchip is an electronic device, about the size and shape of a grain of rice, which is implanted beneath your pet’s skin between the shoulder blades. The microchip can provide the necessary information to reunite you with your pet if you are separated. Often, we’ll implant a microchip when your pet is young and being spayed or neutered, but the procedure can be done any time and at any age – it’s no more painful than a typical vaccination.
Microchips each have a unique tracking number, and once implanted, information about both you and your pet is uploaded to a national database. Most veterinary offices and animal shelters have a scanner that can be used to read this tracking number, and are able to access owner information if your lost pet is brought in.
